1/29/10 At 0537 hours Webbs Mills crews were dispatched to Big Elm on the Hickory Rd for a structure fire at the old Strawberry Patch Gift Shop. Within minutes of recieving the call Webbs Mills crews responded 1831 with 5, 1871 with 3, and 1861 with 3 personal. 1831 was directed to establish a fill site along with 1871. 1861 responded to the scene where tanker shuttles where crews met a -8 degree wind chill and 2 degree temperature. Upon establishing a fill site the primer on 1831 went down forcing crews to cut two holes in the ice and use portable pumps to fill the tankers. In turn Southport's 1432 was transferred fro stand-by at Southcreek to the fill site replacing 1831. Other units including Millerton and Mansfields apparatus also were pushed due to harsh weather conditions.
1831's crews were then sent from the fill site to the scene for manpower. Webbs Mills crews cleared the scene at 0936 hours. After returning to quarters Big Elm was placed on automatic mutual aid for an engine while 1831 undergoes repairs. Other departments involved at fire were:
